Attitude of Gratitude in Any Circumstances

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name.

The Spirit and Art of Conflict Transformation

LISTENING IS AN ART, a spiritual practice. … Listening speaks to one of our deepest needs, to be understood or feel understood. Yes, we might like people to agree with us, take our side, but it is a great gift when we feel that the person understands us, even if the person does not agree with us. … Listening acknowledges and honors the other’s uniqueness with his or her own stories and truths. We each need to tell our story, and we each need to hear the other’s story. Being listened to provides the opening we need to tell our stories, to express feelings and ideas we would otherwise be afraid to voice.

November , 3o Days of Thanksgiving

Day 13: I a thankful to share Jesus
PRAISE DIFFERS FROM thanksgiving, which is offered for a specific reason or a particular gift. Praise does not depend on any single deed or gift of God. It is a prayer, chorus, or hymn directed to God out of endless wonder from our endless discovery of who God is.
Praise goes beyond thanksgiving to express our amazement at God’s concern for us that exceeds our expectation, merit, or imagination. Thus, praising God begins in surprise. God provides more. God is more than we had hoped or dared to imagine.
Offer a prayer of praise today for God’s surprising goodness in your life.

Black Hawk Down

The film takes place in 1993 when the U.S. sent special forces into Somalia to destabilize the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population. Using Black Hawk helicopters to lower the soldiers onto the ground, an unexpected attack by Somalian forces brings two of the helicopters down immediately. From there, the U.S. soldiers must struggle to regain their balance while enduring heavy gunfire

Morning and Evening Meditations

GRANT ME GRACE this day
to rest and remember
that there is nothing I have to do,
nothing I have to buy or sell,
nothing I have to produce or consume
in order to become who I already am:
your beloved creation.
May your overworked creation
and those who cannot rest today
come to know the liberation of your sabbath.

A capable wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
She seeks wool and flax,
   and works with willing hands.
She is like the ships of the merchant,
she brings her food from far away.
She rises while it is still night
and provides food for her household
   and tasks for her servant-girls.
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
She girds herself with strength,
   and makes her arms strong.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
She opens her hand to the poor,
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She is not afraid for her household when it snows,
for all her household are clothed in crimson.

Creativity and Divine Surprise

THE JEWISH PHILOSOPHER Philo of Alexandria is credited with saying, “Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.” That wisdom not only offers good advice about how to treat others but also provides excellent counsel about how to treat yourself when you commit to traveling inward. Be kind to yourself. While it may feel at times as if you are fighting a great battle, the effort is worthwhile. Though difficult, the journey leads to a place of deep peace.

Through the Mail Slot

THREE YEARS AGO a young neighbor with special needs and disadvantages insinuated herself into my life. At my front door looking for daily attention, she would flip open the mail slot, align her eyes with the narrow slit, and scope out my living area. Harboring wild-eyed fear of my cat, she stayed outside, sometimes silent, sometimes stammering.
And there she was, [one Sunday] afternoon, a pair of brown eyes spying on my guests as they ate cheese and crackers. Half an hour later, craning her neck, she watched me, sitting at the end of the dining table directing the flow of bowls and platters. Back in the living room eating pie, we all were aware of the metallic click as she’d run off, distracted, before returning to her eagle-eye perch.
I knew I was not powerless in the situation. I could have latched the screen door. Or asked her mother to call her home. But with a brief apology and explanation to my guests, I followed my heart: Let her stay. She’s unaccustomed to place settings and sitting in place. Let her see this ordered gathering. Let her observe how I host a meal.
Three years older now, she walks around the cat in the living room. She grates cabbage for slaw and fills the pepper grinder in the kitchen. She sets the table when I’m expecting company. “Knife on the right.” She looks puzzled. “You write with your right,” I whisper.
God, give me a vision for passing along to a younger generation what I’ve observed in and absorbed from older mentors.

Our needs will never exhaust God’s supply.

Those who work their land will have abundant food. Proverbs 12:11
Outside my office window, the squirrels are in a race against winter to bury their acorns in a safe, accessible place. Their commotion amuses me. An entire herd of deer can go through our back yard and not make a sound, but one squirrel sounds like an invasion.
The two creatures are different in another way as well. Deer do not prepare for winter. When the snow comes they eat whatever they can find along the way (including ornamental shrubs in our yard). But squirrels would starve if they followed that example. They would be unable to find suitable food.

The deer and the squirrel represent ways that God cares for us. He enables us to work and save for the future, and He meets our need when resources are scarce. As the wisdom literature teaches, God gives us seasons of plenty so that we can prepare for seasons of need (Prov. 12:11). And as Psalm 23 says, the Lord leads us through perilous places to pleasant pastures.
Another way that God provides is by instructing those with plenty to share with those in need (Deut. 24:19). So when it comes to provision, the message of the Bible is this: Work while we can, save what we can, share what we can, and trust God to meet our needs.

One of God's Girls

September 2017, I had 2 cat scans of my entire body-the first showed multi problems, so a second was done, using the dye ( which is risky ), that the problems were more visible to the medical team I have.

Yes, I have a medical team ; bionic heart, which needs Coumadin to work, strychnine, rat poison.. blood clots in both legs, osteo-necrotic bones (they are not getting blood, so are dying) :

My left eye has a catatact, blinding me, my right ear is deaf, my skin has Melanoma, skin cancer: I have had polyps removed 3 times in my lower G.I., and upper G.I. is also not healthy. Melanoma is inside my nose, now, a leaion has formed.

There's more...

I know where God Is in all this... He Is with me, His very Own Spirit fills me.

The Name Jesus has so much Power over me, that  the 2 times ,after dying then being  resuscitated , coming off  on life support, those who prayed over me were witness to my testimony. That is called Blessed beyond 'the curse' !

God Sees me a a precious pearl... He Sees that in everyone, if only they would believe in the Power of His Spirit, which Jesus Walked in, 24/7/365..

My hope is that others gain hope for themselves and so too, become happy.

Today

“WE MUST BE OPEN to letting God change us. Inner change is not just a do-it-yourself job. We all know what usually happens when we grit our teeth, clench our knuckles, and try to change ourselves through our own efforts. We come up short. While there might be some outward changes for a brief time, before long our true character shows itself again. We need some kind of power from outside ourselves. …
The wonderful news is that God actually wants to help us become better persons.”

Birthed in Prayer: Pregnancy as a Spiritual Journey

GOD LOOKS AT US with love, kindness, and great compassion at all times. Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that God takes great delight in us, calms and quiets us with divine love, and rejoices over us with singing. I wonder what song God is singing over me right now? What song is God singing over you? Scripture says that it is a song of rejoicing and delight. I wonder what effect it would have on us if we could hear, just once, the words of God’s song for us.

Your nature is a hard thing to change; it takes time…. I have heard of people who have life-changing, miraculous turnarounds, people set free from addiction after a single prayer, relationships saved where both parties ‘let go, and let God.’ But it was not like that for me. For all that ‘I was lost, I am found,’ it is probably more accurate to say, ‘I was really lost. I’m a little less so at the moment.’ And then a little less and a little less again. That to me is the spiritual life. The slow reworking and rebooting the computer at regular intervals, reading the small print of the service manual. It has slowly rebuilt me in a better image. It has taken years, though, and it is not over yet (U2 and Neil McCormick, U2 by U2 (New York: HarperCollins,  2006), 7).

God is a safe place in life’s storms.

My daughter and I were arranging to attend an extended family gathering. Because she was nervous about the trip, I offered to drive. “Okay. But I feel safer in my car. Can you drive it?” she asked. I assumed she preferred her more spacious vehicle to my compact one so I responded, “Is my car too cramped?” “No, it’s just that my car is my safe place. Somehow I feel protected there.”

Her comment challenged me to consider my own personal “safe place.” Immediately I thought of Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” In Old Testament times, the walls and watchtower of a city provided warning of danger from without and shielding for its citizens within. The writer’s point is that God’s name, which stands for His character, person, and everything that He is, provides true protection for His people.

Certain physical places promise longed-for safety in moments that seem dangerous. A sturdy roof overhead in the midst of a storm. A hospital offering medical care. The embrace of a loved one.
What is your “safe place”? Wherever we seek safety, it is God’s presence with us in that place that provides the strength and protection we really need. —Elisa Morg

Dear God, thank You that no matter what worries and concerns we have today, when we think about You, we find safety in Your presence.

Meditation Message

OUR QUEST TO UNDERSTAND God’s greatness can consume us to the point that we forget God’s nearness. We ask the wise ones in our midst, “Where is God?” When they answer, “God is present in the ordinary events of our everyday lives,” we are tempted to swim away disappointed.
“But this is just me and my humdrum life,” we respond, perplexed. “I am seeking something much greater than this!” We turn away and search elsewhere for that which is before our very eyes — that is, if only we had the eyes to see. God’s loving presence is the sacred water in which we swim.
Without the eyes to see, we continue searching for a spectacular moment of divine revelation. We busy ourselves looking for God on the mountaintop, and we fail to see God right beside us — at work, in traffic, at the grocery store, in the school pickup line, or at our own kitchen table. We long for the indisputable affirmation of God’s presence in a “burning bush” moment. We want the heavens to open, the angels to sing, and God’s voice to offer comfort, clarity, and wisdom. We forget that the ordinary stuff of daily life is extraordinarily sacred. God is in all things — if only we would open our eyes to see.

The Spirit of Holy Love

http://biblehub.com/galatians/5-22.htm

Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

Gentleness is a character trait that is of great value in God's sight. We read about this in 1 Peter 3:4 when Peter writes... but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious. (WEB)

In one of the few places in the New Testament where Jesus describes Himself, He refers to Himself as being gentle... Matthew 11:29 - Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. (WEB) Gentleness is also listed as being part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23.

King David declared to God the following words in 2 Samuel 22:36... You have also given me the shield of your salvation. Your gentleness has made me great. (WEB) I am so glad that God deals with us in His gentleness. If He treated us like we deserved, we would definitely be in trouble... But He doesn't.

I believe that 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes the gentleness of the Lord and how He treats us when Paul writes... 4 Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, 5 doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; 6 doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (WEB)

My prayer today is that we would radiate the same gentleness to those around us, that God shows to us. May we be known as a gentle people who are patient and kind and tender-hearted so we will be just like our big brother!

Food for Thought

EVERY TIME YOU BREATHE you express the name of God. [“I Am,” which is written with four Hebrew consonants, AHYH. When you pronounce the name God gave to Moses, you make the sound of breathing, You draw in a breath, EH, and you exhale YH, which sounds like yuh.]
The first sound a newborn makes is the name of God. The obstetrician listens for it. It comes first as a cry. Everyone thrills with the first sign that the baby can breathe. The last sound a dying person makes before leaving this earth is the name of God.
I find it profoundly meaningful that every mammal on earth begins and ends life pronouncing the name of God. It does not matter what theology I hold, I automatically, many times every day, say the name of God. Even if I am unconscious, I am constantly giving expression to the name of my Creator. There is never really any doubt about whose I am. I am because I belong to I AM. My existence is a gift from the One who is the source of all.

Serenity

MANY DEMANDS UPON OUR TIME and many opportunities waiting to be explored often fill our lives too full with activities and distractions. When this happens it is not surprising that we grow anxious and lose our sense of peace and tranquility.
Today remember that God and God alone is able to care for all that exists; we can trust our smallest and largest concern to the wisdom and love of God. Peace, hope, calm, and joy are the fruits of placing our confidence in God. May these gifts be yours in abundance.

Reflections

I REMEMBER A TIME of horrible confusion when I did not know whom or what I could trust. In a moment of despair, I confided in my mother that I no longer knew what the truth was. She replied without skipping a breath, “The only truth there is, is God’s love.”
An illuminative experience opens us to God’s truth. We know in those few minutes of transcending grace more than we knew only moments before. More than just head knowledge, it is knowing with the heart and with every cell of the body. We never forget this kind of knowledge because the memory attaches into our DNA. With the power of a religious conversion, an illuminative experience changes the way we perceive life. Nothing will ever be the same; nor do we want it to be.

Reflections

GOD CALLS TO OUR SOULS in ways that words cannot — through a moving song, a dramatic dance, the smile of a friend, or the kiss of the sun. From the vivid shades of autumn to the intricacy of a spider’s web, God made the earth and everything in it.
We, too, are expressions of God’s creative beauty and attention to detail. Our spirit flows out of God, who created us and gave us life. God’s fingerprints are all over us, and each of us is imprinted with the likeness of our Creator. No matter what life brings, God’s love will continue to create and to color our lives and our world.

A True Tale

This week, I had to return to see the surgeon who operated on my hip: he placed a screw in it.

I
I waited for my wheelchair transport to take me back home, as I am still in recovery.

A woman came out to also wait her ride: she looked at me and said I looked familiar: I am, I told her, and moved closer to her.  She was thrilled to see me, we had not seen each other in years.

She had lost her left leg...

Left me humbled, please keep her in prayers, her husband recently died; she is a 2 time widow..

1 Corinthians 6

Scripture tells us that a believer has a dual citizenship -- one on earth and the other in heaven. In Philippians 3:20, Paul wrote: "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ." Yet, we also know that when pressed by the Pharisees on the subject of taxation and the enforcement authority of the Roman government, Jesus instructed (Matthew 22:21b): "Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's." In Chapter Six, Paul will discuss how to balance these responsibilities.

It is important to understand that the believer's citizenship in heaven does not absolve us of our responsibility to the state. The Christian has accountability to both. Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 2:2: "...for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness." Therefore, the believer's obligation to the state is to make every effort and contribution toward a peaceful, law-abiding society -- including recognition of governmental authority. But why is it important? So we might get out the Gospel message (1 Timothy 2:3-4): "This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." The subtlety of Paul's point is that even in the most tyrannical governments, there is some degree of freedom to preach the Word.

As we can see, God intended the church and the state to be kept separate. The church was not to dictate nor dominate the state -- and vice versa -- the state was not to control the church nor take the place of God. Unfortunately, many of the political forces in our country think they either speak for God or stand in replacement of Him.

Questions to Ponder:

Are you having difficulty balancing your responsibility to the government with the authority of God? Paul will begin Chapter Six by looking at the legal system and how believers should interact with each other. Whose law applies? God's or the secular system?https://www.ptl.org/?utm_source=Email&utm_medium=DVO&utm_cam

Gaslight (1940 film)

Gaslight is a 1940 British film directed by Thorold Dickinson which
stars Anton Walbrook and Diana Wynyard, and features Frank Pettingell.
The film adheres more closely to the original play upon which it is
based – Patrick Hamilton's Gas Light (1938) – than the better-known 1944
MGM adaptation. The play had been shown on Broadway as Angel Street, so
when the film was released in the United States it was given the same
name.

Set Me Free

ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES is told by Carlos Valles, a Spanish priest who works in India. Once while cycling through the warm Indian countryside, he became aware of a strange stillness in the air. Nature seem to have stopped, as if waiting for something to happen. Sensing danger, he got off his bicycle and looked around.
Suddenly he understood the reason for the eerie silence. In the low grass a cobra stood up with its hood spread and its tongue flicking. Carlos followed the snake’s gaze. It was fixed on the branch of a bush just ahead. On the branch sat a little bird, completely paralyzed. he writes:”I had heard that snakes do that to birds. Now I was seeing it. The bird had wings, but could not fly. It had a voice, but could not sing. It was frozen, stiff, mesmerized. The snake knew its own power and had cast its spell. The prey could not escape, though it had the whole sky for its range.”

Carlos decided to do something. He stirred the breeze with his presence. He tried to break the snake’s hypnotic hold on the bird by waving his arms. He shouted human sounds. Eventially his efforts were successful. Reluctantly the cobra lowered itself to the ground and slid off into the grass. The countryside came alive again with its surrounding sounds. And the bird, freed from its paralysis, found its wings and flew. It discovered its voice and began to sing once more.
This story is a powerful parable. Many people today find themselves caught in the hypnotic gaze of the snake. Some are immobilized by fear or depression or despair or by some other dark feeling. Some are trapped in destructive and addictive patterns of behavior.

Some go through all the familiar motions of believing—praying, reading the Bible, going to church—but somehow feel stuck in their relationship with God. As a result, like the little bird, they become paralyzed. They long for a new freedom. They have wings but do not fly. They have a voice but do not sing.
If you feel paralyzed like this little bird, there is some wonderful good news in the Bible. God wants to free you and me. However, an important precondition accompanies this freedom. We need to be willing to embark on a journey of change, risk, and obedience.

Wisdom from the Psalms

Psalms 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
To look at Bess and to listen to her talk, you would never have thought she was dying of cancer. She always had the same smile on her face and a kind word for everyone who came to see her. The other patients spent a lot of time with her, because her spirit seemed to be contagious. She ministered to her roommates by remaining cheerful and positive. Even the thought of death couldn't take Bess's dynamic humor from her.

The love of God can help us to endure many things.
Circumstances that ordinarily knock us flat are a s nothing when face-to-face with the power of God. Cry out to God in times of affliction, and He will comfort you and lift you above the fear of evil things. Truly, our help is in the Lord.

Prayer: There is nothing in this life, Lord, that I cannot face as long as You are with me. Amen

Take a Break

I CAN ALWAYS TELL when I’ve pushed myself too hard. My body begs for rest; but too often I keep going at breakneck speed, believing I can handle everything—but I can’t. We aren’t meant to continue nonstop. We need breaks. The times we feel as if we can’t pull ourselves away from daily responsibilities may be exactly the times we need a break.

Do you need a moment of stillness? Pause and let Psalm 46:10a breathe healing into your soul: “Be still, and know that I am God!”

Rod Stewart - Broken Arrow (HD 16:9)

I wanna breathe when you breathe
When you whisper like that hot summer breeze
Count the beads of sweat that cover me
Didn't you show me a sign this time
Who else is gonna bring you a broken arrow
Who else is gonna bring you a bottle of rain
There he goes moving across the water
There he goes turning my whole world around, around
Do you feel what I feel, do you feel what I feel
Can you see what I see, can you cut behind the mystery
I will meet you by the witness tree
Leave the whole world behind

Listen to the top where the little bird sings

On the melodies and the high notes ringing,

And the hoot owl cries over everything

And the blackbird disagrees
Singing in the night time, singing in the day,

When little duck quacks, and he's on his way

And the otter hasn't got much to say

And the porcupine talks to himself
All God's creatures got a place in the choi
